Citizen Science Projects
Using iNaturalist this project will document the flora and fauna within the boundaries of the Arlington Teaching Forest. Bioblitz events and workshops will be hosted by the Society to raise awareness of the project.
The purpose of the project is to provide a centralized platform for the coordination and promotion of Bioblitz events throughout Mi'kma'ki (Nova Scotia) in collaboration with citizen scientists and environmental organizations and groups.
Implement a carbon measurement methodology to calculate the amount of carbon being sequestered within the Arlington Teaching Forest
EVENTS & Workshops
Throughout the year the Society will host a number of events and workshops at the Arlington Teaching Forest. Guest speakers will share their knowledge and expertise on a variety of topics related to the forest. Here is a brief list of sample topics that might be offered:
Forest bathing and meditation
Migratory bird bioblitz
Vernal pools & frogs
Hemlock Woolly Adlegid
Plant & tree identification
Compass and GPS navigation
Nesting box building

Event Guidelines:
Waterproof shoes, or hiking boots, long pants and long sleeve shirt are recommended
Plan to bring a camera or smartphone to take photos
Humans only - please leave your pets at home!
Events will follow public health guidelines (e.g. family bubbles, masking when distancing is not possible)
